Podcast 012: Shift That Negative Mindset

Turn that Negative self talk into a stepping stone to thrive in life

We all gather stories that we tell ourselves on repeat that we can’t do it, aren’t smart enough, or don’t have what it takes to achieve our dreams. We all have trauma, big and small, that shaped who we are right now.

People can give you advice all day long, but change happens when you identify the root cause for yourself.  As a Facilitator, I help you focus on the stories you have picked up along the way. Together, we use tools and thought-provoking questions to help you rewrite those stories.

To learn more about SHIFT Coaching and book a session, visit my website www.dana-mitchell.com

What’s Shift Coaching? I help you to identify, shift, and rewrite the negative stories you are telling yourself. These stories can show up in many different hidden ways.

How is coaching different than therapy?  Each discipline has a place in creating healing for someone depending on their need.  Therapists are trained to dig into the details of the past and analyze them.  In coaching, we acknowledge the old stories without reliving the emotional experiences of the past. Then we create shifts in thinking patterns and rewrite those stories for the future.

I support you in your own analysis and identifying your best next steps rather than telling you what and how to do it. That never seems to work, does it?

        DIY Garbage Disposal Cleaning Tabs

Tired of that stinky sink drain? Make your own Deodorizer Tabs with this easy recipe.

        Ingredients
        2 cups baking soda
        1 cup salt
        ½ cup water
⅓ cup unscented liquid castile soap (you could also use Peppermint)
        30 drops Lemon oil

Note: Liquid castile soap is a vegetable-based soap commonly found in health food stores.

        Instructions

        1. Combine baking soda and salt into bowl.
        2. Add castile soap and essential oil into mixture.
        3. Add water, one tablespoon at a time, and stir until the mix forms into the consistency of “damp sand”. It should stay together when pressed. If you add too much water just add some more baking soda and salt until the consistency is right. Getting the mix the right consistence was the biggest challenge with this project.  Don’t throw any of this away if the water isn’t correct. Simply add more dry ingredients or skip the ball making and store it in your container with a scooper to drop it into the disposal. This step will take some practice and patience.
        4. Scoop the mix into a spoon and shape it into mounds on your parchment paper.
        5. Once the mixture has been scooped, let dry for 24 hours or until they are hard. One batch should make about 36 garbage disposal refreshers.
        6. Put into glass jar and use the next time you do dishes. Just put 1–3 refreshers into the garbage disposal and turn it on. You will immediately smell the refreshing scent of Lemon essential oil or the aroma blend you choose. I’ve listed several suggestions below.

        To Order essential oil www.mydoterra.com/danamitchell

        Instructions

        1. Gather your supplies and cover your work surface with an absorbent cloth. Some essential oils may dull the finish of your work surface if accidently absorbed.
        2. Select your glass or stainless steel bottle. This recipe calls for a 4 oz bottle, but you are welcome to use larger spray bottles. Just make sure to increase the amount of oil and water in the recipe. Note: Some essential oils will degrade plastic or foam, so we recommend glass or stainless steep when making sprays containing essential oils.
        3. Apply a label to your glass bottle identifying what’s inside or what the mixture is used for. We called our mixture Go Away Bug Spray. Visit my Amazon affiliate link to view label options. You will not incur any additional cost by using this link, this is simply Amazon’s way to thank me for suggesting some of their products to you.
        4. Add essential oil to your glass spray bottle by tilting the essential oil bottle on its side. Do not shake the oil from the bottle – you will add more drops that you intended.  Add a total of 10 drops of essential oil. We used 8 drops Peppermint Essential Oil and 2 drops Wild Orange Essential Oil.
        5. Add about 4 oz (1/2 cup) of water to your bottle.  We used tap water, because we intended to use the spray immediately. If you are making the spray to store for later, use distilled water.
        6. Secure the spray nozzle to the bottle and shake the liquid to mix.
        7. You are ready to spray your entry ways, windowsills, garage, basement, or garden beds.  Oil and water don’t mix well, so make sure to give it a shake as you spray.
